Los Angeles Adult Entertainment: Walnut resident Beck rises to top of LAPD
Beck, 56, is expected to be confirmed by the Los Angeles City Council at its Tuesday meeting, after winning unanimous approval from a council committee last Monday.
Beck was chosen by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to succeed the ever-popular William J. Bratton, who oversaw a drop in crime and improvement of the department’s image.
“It’s a little bit daunting,” Beck said of his job. “It’s a huge department and a huge responsibility. I’m anxious for it but I think I’m the right one for the job.”
The LAPD has been his entire life. It was because of it that met his wife, Cindy, now a retired sheriff’s deputy. They met 25 years ago, while she was working at the county jail in Los Angeles and Beck was booking a prostitute, friends said.
