Los Angeles Adult Entertainment: Westminster police get $400000 to fight child trafficking

According to a staff report, the department applied for the grant from the California Emergency Management Agency, in collaboration with Community Service Programs Inc. and the Public Law Center. All these agencies are members of the Orange County Human Trafficking Force. However, Westminster Police Department will be the primary recipient of the grant awarded.
The total grant is for $1.2 million, which will be split over three years. Grants for the additional years will depend on the success of the program. The money will be used to train police officers and emergency personnel about issues surrounding child trafficking, to develop training DVDs as well as a training Web site about child trafficking.
The $400,000 funding for the first year will become effective Jan. 1.
The 2008 Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Uniform Crime Report states that children represent 3.6 percent of prostitution arrests made in California. The Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force has assisted 61 potential child victims including a 12-year-old child who was held in an Irvine gated community, officials said.
