Cyrus’s “pole-dancing” performance draws criticism.
Disney was quick to distance itself from a performance by Miley Cyrus, the star of its hit TV show “Hannah Montana,” at the Aug. 10 Teen Choice Awards.
The provocatively dressed singer, donning a pair of short shorts, a tank top, and biker boots, performed her new single “Party in the USA” while dancing around what appeared to many to resemble a stripper’s pole.
Disney, which apparently had beforehand knowledge of Cyrus’s act, issued a statement prior to the performance: “Disney Channel won’t be commenting on that performance, although parents can rest assured that all content presented on the Disney Channel is age-appropriate for our audience kids 6-14 and consistent with what our brand values are.” .
